Shyam Prabhakar obtained a B.Tech in Electronics Engineering from IIT Madras and a PhD in Applied Physics from Stanford University. He received the 2001 American Physical Society PhD thesis award for Beam Physics. After postdoctoral work in Mathematics at Stanford and Genomics at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, he joined the A*STAR Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS). His lab uses spatial & single-cell assays and novel algorithms to identify disease markers and mechanisms. He co-leads the Human Cell Atlas Genetic Diversity Network and leads the Asian Immune Diversity Atlas (AIDA) single cell network and the TISHUMAP spatial omics programme for drug target discovery.
